Last year we decided to hold a live show at Halloween (ok, one week early!), giving us a great excuse to go mad on decorating the hall and even dressing up, whilst having the show at the same time.

As the day dawned and everything had been packed into the car to transform the hall into The Haunted Hall, we headed out. Once the rooms had been re vamped (changing rooms would have been proud!) it was time to open the doors on the 2005 Live Show. We had a great turn out of participants for the show, and it was especially lovely to see as many new faces as old.

After everybody had unpacked and had that all important tea , coffee and biscuits to revive them from their early starts we got underway. At once everyone entered into the Spriit (Ha Ha) of things and donned  witches headwear and ghoulish gear.

Starting with the performance classes, we had fantastic entries with a very high standard of imagination and attention to detail, not to mention the effort that had been clearly put into them. Carmody Collins amazing horsecball entry took first place in the English ridden class.

In the in hand section we split the classes into two sections, OF and customs.
Again we had great entries in both divisions, and our judges had some tough decisions to make. We even subjected the poor newcomers to having a go at Judging accompanied with an old hand to get an idea of how it is done, and with full classes, it wasn’t easy. With lunchtime fast approaching we decided to run the newcomer show alongside the in hand classes. In the newcomer section we had 6 entrants and it was over to Sam Helton and Sarah Clements to put their judging hats on and cast their eyes over the entries upon the table. The Championship for the newcomers was won by Jan Ruslings Arab ‘Woodland Mintrel’ with reserve champion going to Katherine Murray’s Twilight Youth (1st in foals/youngstock), and the reserve to Holly Sayers unmanned Warmblood (1st in the prurebred class).

With a break for lunch , most headed of for their first visit to Utterly Horses and the showroom, and they returned an hour later with smiling faces and purchases in hand!. Back at the hall the sales tables, quiz’s and raffle had finished ,and it was back to the showing and the in hand championships.

Now with all of the serious stuff out of the way it was time for the fun classes. Keeping the theme of Halloween the first class was a Halloween Scene (my personal favorite class of the day). Everyone had fantastic entries and enormous amount of imagination. They all looked as if they had had a lot of great fun coming up with idea’s – or had they all been watching too many horror films !

All that was left now was the Supreme Championships. Everyone hid when when Judges were asked for and who can blame them!, such a task, but eventually willing  victims … sorry  I meant judges  appeared.

So congratulations to Jan Rusling on winning the Supreme Champions with her customized Arab Woodland Minstral and I was lucky to have my coach and four coming reserve.

Well done to everyone who entered the show and thank you all for coming, helping with setting up and even sweeping up at the end all helping to making the day so much fun for everyone. I would also like to say a special thank you to Donna from Animal Artistry for coming such a long way to be at the show.

We hope you all had a great we certainly did and we hope to see you all again really soon for the UH live show 2006. We will let you know when the new date is confirmed.

The show finished, it was time for everyone to head of into the sunset, (ok the dark night!, but it is ok, it’s not really a haunted hall or is it….. Did anyone else hear that or was it just me?
